Day 1
Central Kalahari
Arrive in Maun by air from Johannesburg, where you will be met by a representative who will assist with your luggage and transferring you to the charter plane which will take you to the Central Kalahari. Here you will meet your guide and be transferred by road to Kalahari Plains Lodge

Day 2
Central Kalahari
After breakfast you will meet a bushman family who will take you on an interpretative walk. The experience will offer insights into how the San Bushmen live and survive in the Kalahari, the ancient San culture, as well as how they navigate life in combination with their environment.
After lunch, head out on a game drive. Dinner, under the African stars is an experience you will long remember. A raised platform at the lodge offers the opportunity for an astronomy talk, where the lack of light pollution makes stargazing in the Kalahari quite spectacular.

Day 3
Central Kalahari
Piper’s Pan is your destination today. After breakfast, head out in the safari vehicle, where the length of the drive is determined by the flow of the bush. The site where you will be spending the next three nights is private and miles from anyone or anything else, except the local wildlife.

Day 4 & 5
Central Kalahari
Piper’s Pan, made up of 3 pans, is home to quite a few leopards, a population of cheetah and a resident pride of lion. Because the pans are covered in vegetation, it attracted animals for feeding and you can see herds of Wildebeest, Oryx and Springbok, as well as Giraffe and Kudu, who tend to stick to the islands of the pan

Day 6
Central Kalahari
The wilderness area of the north-western part of the Central Kalahari is where today’s route goes, ending at Tau Pan.
The lodge is situated on a ridge of an ancient dune and offers beautiful views of the surrounding wilderness. Once you have checked in at the lodge and enjoyed a relaxing lunch, the afternoon game activity will introduce you to the area

Day 7
Moremi Game Reserve
The morning starts with a game activity and breakfast, before boarding your charter flight back to Maun and onwards to Khwai.
On arrival in Khwai the contrast between what you have experienced so far, in terms of vegetation and wildlife, will be immediately noticeable.

Day 8 & 9
Moremi Game Reserve
Game drives, walking safaris, night drives and mokoro excursions are all on offer, giving you access to the elephants, lion, leopard, servla and African wildcat. Seasonally, there are also buffalo, tsesebe, giraffe, kudu and other antelope can be seen.

Day 10
Depart
After breakfast and once you have said farewell to your safari crew, your guide will transfer you back to Maun on a final drive.

Kalahari Plains Lodge
Canvas tented rooms raised off the ground, with walkways on sand. Being located in the desert, the canvas and roofs have been specially insulated to keep out most of the heat during the day and the cold during the night. During winter months hot water bottles and extra blankets are provided.
Each room consists of en-suite facilities with shower, twin hand basins, electronic safe, mosquito net, coffee and tea making facilities, writing desk and chair, easy chair and a shaded veranda downstairs.
Seasonal bathrobes, slippers, liquid soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, body lotion, room spray, insect repellent, insect spray, mosquito coil, shower caps, vanity kit with cotton tip swabs and cotton wool pads, sewing kit, tissue dispenser, laundry bag and umbrella are supplied in each tent.
No air-conditioning, however, a ceiling fan is provided in all the rooms.
Private rooftop area for sleep-outs, to enjoy the night skies and allowing good views over the pan and plains (weather permitting).
Tau Pan Lodge
The sixth night will be spent at Tau Pan Lodge, with 9 environmentally adapted en-suite tents including 1 family tent are set on raised decks, affording the same spectacular views over the plains. Each has an indoor and outdoor shower, double-basin vanity, open wardrobe, King-sized double bed, living area and writing desk.
The main area of the camp is set around the fireplace, which is the ideal spot for game viewing down to the waterhole. A telescope is also provided for guests’ use. The bar, lounge, curio shop and dining area all encircle the fire place.

The rest of your stay you will be camping with Letaka Safaris: The tents are 4 x 3m Sahara style tents with high roof with a 2 x 3m en-suite bathroom and a 2 x 3m covered area in front of the tent. The tents are fitted with solid base camp beds made up with mattresses, sheets, duvets and pillows. The tents have en-suite long drop toilet facilities and a bucket shower at the rear of the tent. Showers can be ordered as hot, cold or warm and the water is heated in a bucket on the fire. Showers may be taken at any time but on Kalahari safaris the guide withholds the right to limit water use and showering depending upon the availability of water. Both hand towels and bath towels are supplied for the guests’ convenience along with conditioning shampoo and shower gel but please note that guests should bring their own personal items.
Each tent has an oil/paraffin lamp on the veranda and in the bathroom and within the tent itself, a LED rechargeable camp light is supplied along with a side table in the sleeping area and in the bathroom. Although each tent has lighting and there are lamps strategically around the camp for navigation, an essential tool for your safari is a headlamp which lets you read a book at night in your tent or catch up with your safari journal as you listen to the sounds of the wild outside!
