The 5 Top Hiking Trails on the Garden Route
Ruiterbos Forest Hiking Trail – Mossel Bay
This hike offers various hiking distance options and it is considered to be a relatively easy walk. This trail consists of various trails and they will take you through the indigenous trees and pine forests, and many of the trees are labelled so you can learn first-hand what types of trees you are looking at. There is also nearby accommodation which you can book if you intend to spend a couple of days exploring.
Pass to Pass Trail – George
If you are looking for a trail that is a little more intense, this is the one. It covers some 7.5km, and it is located just outside of the town of George. On this trail, you can spot all sorts of exciting things including the most stunning views of the town. This trail will take you high up into the mountains and along the trail, there are a few places to have a picnic.
Giant Kingfisher’s Trail – Wilderness
Wilderness is easily one of the most beautiful and laid back places on the Garden Route, and it also has amazing hiking trails. This one starts off a little tough but as the trail progresses it becomes a lot easier to navigate. The trails cover a short distance of 3.5km and it is considered a medium difficulty hike.
Goukamma Trails – Sedgefield
You will have a variety of options with this trail, as the distances vary between 4km to 13.5km. This makes it a perfect day long adventure and along the way, you will be treated to some pretty epic sea views as well as get the chance to look at interesting coastal vegetation.
Milwood Mine Walk – Knysna
A medium difficulty hike and one that will take you along a popular trail that is full of history, this hike offers plenty of incredible scenery and it is a great lesson in the gold rush that engulfed the area in the 18th century.
